John Piper and Sam Allberry are two of the most influential figures among evangelicals today. Both men have introduced new language into the church on salvation, sanctification, and the self-image of the Christian.
Serious questions, however, are raised by this trend. Many who initially embraced John Piper’s doctrine of ‘Christian hedonism’ now consider it a repackaged mysticism, and one which takes the place of saving faith. Not only so, this doctrine has coincided with the acceptance of ‘same-sex attraction’ within the church – which many see as simply a normalisation of homosexuality.
